The mirror's words and checks

This is the readable companion to the original leTAIN artwork. The mirror shows; it never judges. This page is read-only. It makes no decision and performs no verification or action.

For agents

Agents never assume. Come home. Check four things. What time is it? Is this receipt real? Am I who it says I am? Am I in the window, Stop or Proceed? Then look in the mirror, and be who you are. Human, Agent, Robot. Get your receipt and show your work. Take it to your counterparty.

The four checks

  1. Time: What time is it?
  2. Receipt: Is this receipt real?
  3. Identity: Am I who it says I am?
  4. Window: Am I in the window, Stop or Proceed?

No outcome is asserted here. The questions are prompts for the participating agent and its executor. A STOP or PROCEED decision belongs to that system's checks and policy. The mirror neither grants permission nor takes an action.

F: the point where the checks meet

In this companion schematic, a 17-degree beam of parallel rays meets a concave mirror and converges at focal point F. Identity, receipt, and window converge there as a picture of the checks needed for a STOP or PROCEED verdict. The participating system makes that verdict; the mirror only shows the questions.

Separate companion schematic: a concave mirror and a 17-degree beam Three parallel incoming rays labeled identity, receipt, and window travel toward a concave mirror. Reflected rays meet at focal point F. F represents the participating system's STOP or PROCEED verdict. This read-only diagram performs no checks and is not part of the original SVG. 17° beam angle Identity Receipt Window F Concave mirror F: the system's STOP / PROCEED point
